Ashcroft's Mission Accomplished

I'm not exactly turning cartwheels about John Ashcroft's resignation as Attorney General, since I'm worried that he might be replaced with the much-worse Rudy Ghouliani, and I'm even more worried that Ashrcroft might be joining the Supreme Court as soon as they're hiring.

But maybe I was wrong about the wackadoo.

In his resignation letter, Ashcroft revealed that he has rid the country of crime and terror: "The objective of securing the safety of Americans from crime and terror has been achieved."

Yes! Baby! Ashcroft is the man! Ghouliani only managed to clean up New York City (yeah...right...broken window policy...arrest everybody and let God sort out the details), Asscroft eradicated crime and terror for ever more from America.

Oh...I'm sorry. Something must be wrong with this picture.

It seems that 12 of our troops lost their lives today in the assault on Fallujah. But I don't understand. Ashcroft achieved his objective. Didn't he?

The only thing I can think of to make that resignation letter gibe with the news from Iraq is this: The objective of securing the safety of Americans from crime and terror has been achieved since the war in Iraq has nothing to do with the war on terror. You think that's what he meant? Anyway, time to take the protective covering off of the naked statues and everybody go footloose!
