First Public Reading

The Rules of Embedment or Why are we back in Iraq?
A drama in four acts by Ron Brynaert
A writer for a New York City Magazine, the son of a renowned activist/journalist, whose views have become more moderate since 9-11, enlists as an embedded reporter to cover the war in Iraq. The action starts on the streets of New York City in the middle of the rally against the war on February 15th, continues at a journalist boot camp in Quantico, Virginia and marches through Iraq over the Diyala Bridge straight to Firdos Square in Baghdad on April 9th (the day a statue was toppled in a media-savvy attempt to symbolize closure). The writer must pick the best bed to sleep: beside his liberal girlfriend and the angry voices of the left or the young men with boots on the ground or in the cozy busom of the administration friendly media.
